For Countryside

You are never far from some magnificent countryside which you can explore by foot, bicycle or boat. The dramatic scenery and timeless towns and villages of this part of Yorkshire are familiar to millions of television viewers as they provide the locations of some of the most popular drama and comedy series.

For Culture

You can look around the wonderful collection of local museums, exhibitions, galleries and artist’s studios. Take in a show at one of the local theatres or attend one of the many concerts that are held throughout the year including the world famous Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.

There’s a huge range of shops from designer boutiques to Kingsgate, the new multi-millionpound shopping centre. Yorkshire is famed for its indoor and outdoor markets with nearby Dewsbury having the largest open market in Yorkshire. Large shopping centres are also nearby at Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester.

For Eating Out

Take your pick from a range of fabulous awardwinning restaurants. Everything from Indian to Greek food is available with many local coffeeshops, pubs, takeaways and international fast food chains to choose from. You can also savoura tantalising range of cuisine at our Food and Drink Festival.

For Entertainment

There is always lots to do all year round from watching successful football and rugby league teams at the modern Galpharm stadium to seeing the latest films at the multi-screen Odeon cinema. There is also regular live music in a huge variety of bars, pubs and clubs as well as stadium concerts by international artists such as Bryan Adams and Elton John.

For Location

A large town situated in the centre of the UK. The major cities of Leeds and Manchester areonly a short distance away and London is just 2.5 hours away by train. Compared to the South of England the general costs of living are around 40% less making it a popular destination for students.
