International Partnerships
The Yorkshire & Humber TVET Consortium:
The Yorkshire & Humber Technical Vocational Education and Training (YHTVET) Consortium was established in 2006 with the specific objective of establishing long-term strategic partnerships between our region and China. This internationally focused Consortium is in direct response to the prioritisation of TVET globally amongst Government and their Educational Departments.
A total of 9 colleges and their associated partners have come together to form the YHTVET Consortium:
- West Yorkshire
- Bradford College
- Calderdale College
- Kirklees College
- Leeds City College
- Wakefield College
- South Yorkshire
- Doncaster College
- Sheffield College
- North Yorkshire
- York College
- The Humber
- Hull College
In April 2007 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Yorkshire & Humber TVET Consortium and Zhejiang Province Educational Department. This partnership aims to link schools, colleges, education officials and businesses in the Zhejiang Province with Further Education (FE) Colleges and their partner organisations in the Yorkshire and Humber region to facilitate TVET development and transnational education links.
With the support of the Association of Colleges, British Council, Yorkshire Forward and UK Trade & Invest the YHTVET Consortium is now in a strong position to develop partnerships globally and to offer our training packages and expertise in your region.
Specific Aims & Objectives of the YHTVET Consortium:
- To provide an overview of UK TVET policy, the role of Further Education, delivery models, progression routes and partnerships between education and industry.
- To promote global learning opportunities for trainers, students, employers and employees across the Yorkshire and Humber region.
- To develop joint delivery methods and programmes to create sustainable partnerships between YHTVET members and educational institutions globally.
- To offer high quality learning within the Yorkshire and Humber region to international students.

Teacher Training Packages Available:
The YHTVET Consortium has built on these curriculum strengths to develop a range of bespoke vocational teacher training packages in the following areas:
- Electrical Engineering
- Computing Technology
- Business & Finance
- Textiles & Fashion
- Hospitality, Travel & Tourism
- Media & Graphic Design
The YHTVET Consortium is also developing further Teacher Training package in Health and Social Care, Construction, Animal Care, Travel and Tourism, Hair and Beauty and English Language in the near future. Other packages can be developed upon request.
UK-China Skills Challenge
The YHTVET Consortium has been successful in winning the UK-China Skills Challenge funded through DIUS. This project will see the Consortium use the UK Apprenticeship framework model to link academic study to vocational training and on the job training to create a fully skilled workforce within Chinese schools and colleges.
The YHTVET Consortium led by Wakefield College will focus its efforts under this project in the Province of Chongqing. A total of seven vocational routes will be developed under the UK-China Skills Challenge; namely Basic Skills, Financial Services, Construction, Engineering, Information Technology, Hospitality and Tourism and Creative Industries. The Consortium will develop a pilot in three vocational areas over the course of the two year project and the remaining areas will be developed so that they can be purchased by Chinese schools, colleges and local governments in the future.
